-on son of Amphilochos . . . dedicated this, having become healthy, to Asklepios, in the priesthood of Teisias (338/7).^[1] Leochares [made it].^[2]

[1] This is a statue base dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis. The dedicator is explicit that he dedicated it after recovering from an illness. Teisias of the tribe Akamantis was priest of Asklepios in 338/37 BC (Aleshire, Asklepieion, 3, l. 29). On the Asklepieion and its inscriptions, see IG II³ 4, 665. [2] The sculptor Leochares, who was active from c. 360-320 BC, was most famous for a statue group at Delphi depicting Alexander the Great and Krateros slaying a lion (Plutarch Alexander 40.5), but produced numerous works at Athens, Olympia, and for the Mausoleum at Halikarnassos (DNO 2032-2068). None survive.
