[1] This rectangular marble base is a fourth-century choregic dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes). On the upper side, there are traces of holes for the attachment of the tripod. The ascription to the City Dionysia rather than the Thargelia is certain because there is only a single victorious tribe. Either the sponsor himself or a son was probably named in 345/4 BC as the registrant of a mine at Besa (Agora XIX P 27, l. 18; Davies, APF 4477).
