Decree of Rhamnous

AIO 3582 Date: Late 4th cent. BC

Gods^[1] 10 lines preserving no complete word (12) . . . and the religious officials (hieropoious) shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele and stand it (15)in the sanctuary of Nemesis.

[1] Textual Note AIO's text follows I Rham., but, with N. Papazarkadas, ZPE 149, 2004, 69-70 no. 2 (= SEG 54.209) restoring ἱεροποι]οὺς ("religious officials") as the officials charged with erecting the stele in place of Petrakos' ἑλομέν]ους ("those chosen").

As Papazarkadas notes, the role of the hieropoioi in erecting the decree implies that this was a decree of the deme, most likely acting alone. Cf. I Rhamnous 15. The two decrees are similiarly laconic, and perhaps date to around the same time (our decree, dated to 4th cent. BC in I Rham., most likely belongs with other extant decrees of this deme, late in the century). On the deme Rhamnous in general and its inscriptions see I Rhamnous 182.
