[1] This architectural fragment is from a fourth-century choregic dedication commemorating a victory in a dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes) or Thargelia (cf. IG II³ 4, 475 with notes), or other competitive event, such as the pyrrhiche at the Panathenaia (cf. IG II³ 4, 433 with notes). It was perhaps part of an epistyle block from a large monument.
