[1] The relief depicts, to the left, Apollo seated on the omphalos, to the right, fragments of an altar and of the arm of a worshipper. Apollo’s birthday was the seventh of Thargelion (D.L. 3.2), cult of Apollo Hebdomaios is attested in Attica and a hebdomaion (“seventh-day offering”) is provided for in the sacrificial calendar of the city (see SEG 52.48A F6 with n. 11). The latter offering appears to involve pythaistai, and though the findspot of our relief is unknown, E. Voutiras, AJA 86, 1982, 229-33, plausibly suggested that it was one of several votive reliefs originating from the Pythion at Ikarion connected with “pythaistai”. Cf. IG II³ 4, 632; 638; Rutherford, State Pilgrims, 312-16. On the deme Ikarion and its inscriptions see IG I³ 1015, wth notes. The precise character of the Hebdomaistai is obscure, but the dating by eponymous official (e.g. archon or priest) is more suggestive of a board of cult officials appointed for an annual term than a permanent group.
