[1] This rectangular base is a fourth-century choregic dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes). There is anathyrosis for attaching another block to the left which presumably included the left half of the inscription. On the upper surface, there are traces of a single hole for the attachment of a tripod. The demotic of the sponsor (choregos) indicates that the victorious tribe was Kekropis. [2] It is uncertain whether the director from Opous and the pipe-player from Tegea are Pheidias of Opous and Kallistratos of Tegea whose victory at the Thargelia in 349/8 BC is recorded in IG II³ 4, 493.
