[The pre-ephebes] of the archonship of Philemon^[1] (dedicated this) to the Muses:^[2] -os son of Eubiotos of Phlya – son of Dionysios of Rhamnous.

[1] The year that this archon held office is unknown (100-90 BC, J. D. Morgan in the Agora edition; 74-63 BC, Meritt, Historia 26, 1977, 189). [2] These mellepheboi (“pre–ephebes”) were a class of youths fifteen years old (Censor. De die nat. 14.8), preceding the ephebate, cf. Pélékidis, Éphébie, 59-60. They also dedicated IG II³ 4, 373, 374, and probably 367. These monuments are dedicated to the Muses, suggesting that the mellephebes occupied themselves with education in the arts, rather than in physical/military training.
