[1] Textual note: AIO follows IG II² in reading Ἁλιμήδη in line 1. Traill, PAA 2 p. 15 (accepted by S. G. Byrne, Athenian Onomasticon) suggests [Κα]λλιμήδη, but the name and patronym are perfectly aligned one above the other (as in the second column), there is no trace of preceding letters on the well-preserved surface, and the first letters are certainly alpha lambda, not double lambda.

This inscription is written on the epistyle below a pediment forming a separate block that would have crowned a large funerary naiskos, likely with sculpted figures between side pilasters (cf. AIUK 4.6 (BM, funerary), no. 30). It commemorates two Athenian women, Halimede and Sostrate, perhaps mother and daughter. Their names are carved in two columns that likely acted as name labels for figures in the lost relief beneath. The inscription's original findspot is unknown, but it now stands on the Kolonos Agoraios, west of the Agora, on top of an unrelated acanthus column capital.
