[1] The inscription commemorating Aphrodisios on this kioniskos (small funerary column) was written over an earlier erased text within a tabula ansata. It was common to reuse funerary monuments in this way, especially these ubiquitous kioniskoi of the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The spelling of Aphrodisios with -ei- was widespread in the Roman period, and the presence of lunate sigma and epsilon and a cursive form of delta suggests a 2^nd or 3^rd century AD date.
