[1] This is a trapeza (or mensa), a large rectangular table-like monument found at Athens from the 4^thcent. BC onwards. It commemorates Aischines and Epiphile, who were perhaps husband and wife. The name Epiphile is only found at Athens once more, on a funerary stele (IG II² 10609/10), and these two monuments are likely connected, since an Aischines (son of Euethion) also appears there. If they are the same couple, then our monument may have to be redated to the 4^thcentury BC.
