[1] This is one of a number of imperial period dedications to Zeus Hypsistos (“Zeus The All High”) deriving from the former site of the Athenian Assembly on the Pnyx. For other such dedications see AIUK 4.5 no. 13, with notes. Many of them take the form of anatomical votives. Beneath the inscription, within a sunken panel, there is a moulding representing a pair of human arms. It must have some connection with health, although we need not necessarily assume that the dedicant had suffered from a disease or injury directly afflicting the arms. The wording of the inscription makes it explicit that the votive was made in thanks for healing already received (cf. AIUK 4.5 no. 22, IG II³ 4, 1250).
