The Areopagos Council and the Council of the Six Hundred and the [People] (erected this statue of) Julius Nikanor ⟦New Homer and New⟧ ⟦Themistokles⟧.^[1]

[1] This is one of a series of statue bases for the first-century AD benefactor, Julius Nikanor “the New Homer and New Themistokles.” On him and the date, see IG II² 1069. As in most other inscriptions mentioning him, the extravagant titles have been erased. The inscription, reported by K. S. Pittakes L'ancienne Athènes, 1835, p. 228, has been identified with IG II² 3787, but the line divisions are different and the two inscriptions were first reported at opposite ends of the Acropolis, so they are likely distinct (S. Follet in S. Follet ed., L'hellénisme d'époque romaine, 2004, 139-40).
